When: (Each routine will have a scheduled time.  See the buttons above.  Please note: the dress rehearsal is later than usual, but our setup is delayed due to the pandemic.)

Dress Rehearsal:  Friday, May 14th from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Recital:  Saturday, May 15th from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

Logistics:

Parking:  Enter the building from the College Avenue side.  Use the main entrance by the traffic

semi-circle in front of the school. Enter the building and check in with our helpers in the lobby.  Parking is available on the street or in the Salem City Schools Municipal lot across 4th Street from the school.

Auditorium/Performance:  Due to the pandemic, we will have a limited audience.  Basically, spectators will line up with their dancer in the main hallway and enter the auditorium just before the dancer performs.  After the dancer performs, the spectators and dancers will exit the auditorium and the building.  Drop box links to explanatory videos are coming soon!

 

Miscellaneous Notes:

• At least one adult will be required to stay with each dancer 9 and under while in the building.

• On the day of the show, our videographers will be livestreaming the show.

• The video will be available after the performance for everyone who paid their recital fee. 

• Do not take pictures during the dress rehearsal or performance.  The flash can blind the dancers.

• The dress rehearsal and recital schedules that I will post are estimates.  You need to arrive a little early to get parked and in the building ready to perform.  My goal is to have 3 routines staged and ready to go at all times.

• You only be allowed to watch routines that you have a wrist band for.  Only dancers, helpers and those with wrist bands will be admitted to the building. One wrist band is required for each routine that you watch.  Each dancer will have a maximum of two spectators for both the dress rehearsal and the recital.

• As a courtesy to others, please set cell phones to silent during both the dress rehearsal and recital.

 

 

 

Dancer Preparation:

• All dancers must arrive dressed in their first recital costume complete with tights (if required), hair accessory in place; with hair and make-up done.  Dance shoes should be carried in a separate bag.  They should only be worn in the building and not outside.

• ***** Dancers with multiple routines will have an assigned dressing room.  (You are not required to use it.)  Please label all costumes, shoes and bags.  (If things get left behind, I will have an easier time getting them back to you.)

Make-up

I would prefer for you or your dancer to have at least some make-up on.  The stage lights really wash our dancers out.  At a minimum, please put some lipstick and blush on you or your dancer.  You may also add eye shadow, foundation, eye liner and mascara.  (The foundation, eye liner and mascara would be most appropriate for the older dancers and are all optional.)

The biggest make-up requirement is for the show itself.  It will be live streamed and recorded by our professional videographer and people will be watching in person and online.  I do not specify particular colors for eye shadow.

Last, but not least: If putting make-up on your dancer will make your life unbearable on the dress rehearsal or recital day, by all means bring them without.  I would rather them dance happy, than not dance at all.

 

 

Hair

Princess Style Hair:  Here is the basic idea for the hairstyle.  The main idea is to keep the girl’s hair out of their face. Basically, pull back the top part of their hair back to keep it out of their face.  The easiest way is to put the top part back into a pony tail.  You are welcome to choose other options like a braid or whatever suits you.  For simplicity this is the hairstyle of choice for all dancers unless you have been otherwise instructed by your teacher.

Other Hair notes: I am trying to keep the hair styles for our younger dancers as simple as possible.  If you have hairspray or hair gel, it would be great to give a quick spritz to the top of your dancer’s head to keep their hair back.  If that will not sit well with them, please don’t bother.  We want them to be as happy as possible for the performance.

Final Thoughts on Hair and Make-Up

FYI, I found the easiest way to get a dancer ready for a show is to put on a button up shirt or a shirt with a big neck opening.  I would fix my daughter’s hair and apply the make-up.  After we were all finished, we would put on her costume.  It avoids the potential spills of hair spray and make-up on the costume
